I HATE them! I almost always exit a site's entry pages especially with animation and music. I also agree with Chris. I too will exit a site that is too cluttered and busy. But I can relate to that because I DO that. If I visit the home page and there's just way too much going on there and the information that I seek is buried deep within the site - I'm gone. Another site will provide the information or products more easily. That's really something to think about. Another point that I'd like to mention is that if a site takes too long to download, I'll leave. If there's just way to much stuff running and clogging the entry, there's no point in venturing further if it's a hassle. So I think that paying attention to your site's download time is also very important.
