The Difference Between Thriving And Surviving

Clate Mask, President of Infusionsoft, joined us on this episode of Small Business Trends radio to discuss the difference between thriving and surviving. Clate revealed the strategies that thriving businesses know and surviving businesses NEED to grow quickly and profitably.

We all have to face setbacks and obstacles at some point in our lives. When in that dilemma, we morph into survival mode, get stuck there and then thriving seems like a luxury that is something there’s suddenly no time for. Not so.

Pull yourself out of survival mode now and begin thriving with Clate’s suggestions below:

  • When in survival mode — fear controls us. We are wrapped up in negative energy and worry. Never let fear steer the wheel. Recognize the mental state and forcibly correct it.
  • To correct fearful thinking — 1.) take note of your negative thoughts and immediately replace them with positive ones by forcibly replaying a memory of a great vacation, a loving pet or a favorite place at that moment. 2.) Actively seek out ways to compliment others. You will then be on the receiving end of positive energy and the exchange of this energy between the two parties grants a powerful surge of productivity.
  • Freedom is king — in all forms. Financial freedom, free time and emotional freedom enables you to do the things you want to do. Fear is limiting but freedom is liberating. Free yourself by figuring out what “thriving” means to you and focus your energies there. A feeling of freedom will come when you’re working towards goals that you know will ultimately fulfill you.

Clate’s father always used to say, “Thoughts lead to words, words lead to beliefs, beliefs lead to actions, actions lead to habits and habits lead to success – or failure if you started the process with negative thoughts -and reveal our ultimate character.”

Do you want to be a success or a failure? Because we all move towards what we think about.

“Do you want to be a success or a failure? Because we all move towards what we think about.”

Of course, I wanted to be a success. Now, I realized I should refrain from surviving as it also means I am being controlled by fear.

I never have thought thinking about surviving is as good as saying that we are controlled by fear.

Clate advised staying positive and focused. I couldn’t agree more. The beginning stages of business are difficult, so much so that it is easy to become digusted and overwhelmed. I know this from experience. Luckily for me, my husband was always encouraging and reminding me to think positive. His good energy was always the boost that would get me refocused and excited again.

I just absolutely loved what Clate’s father used to say. That is so very, very true and it seems to have served Clate well!

I really liked his suggestion of seeking out ways to compliment others as well. Such a great idea and a wonderful way to receive good vibes from those around you and get positive energy flowing.
