Dr. James Powers: How To Realize ROI On Webinars

Dr. James Powers, CEO of iLinc, joins host Anita Campbell to share his best practices for promoting and leveraging webinars as part of your marketing mix.

Below are the questions we asked Dr. Powers in this episode:

  • (2:58) First Dr. James, can you tell us a bit more about yourself and your background?
  • (4:10) Tell us, how did you get from one industry to the other?
  • (4:50) Now, tell us more about iLinc. We all know that iLinc is a web and video conferencing solution but what does that really mean?
  • (6:19) How can a small business use a webinar to grow their business and increase sales? In other words, how do you get something out of a webinar?
  • (7:50) Do the majority of your customers use iLinc for lead generation, for demo, for keeping up to date with existing customers – or all of the above?
  • (9:34) A lot of small businesses think that web conferencing is only a telepresence tool for large enterprise companies. Can you speak to this perception?
  • (12:31) Can you share your best practices for promoting and leveraging webinars as part of your marketing mix?
  • (14:20) Is there an ideal time length for a webinar?
  • (15:42) How early should you start promoting a webinar?
  • (16:51) Any thoughts on the follow-up and providing access to the webinar?
  • (18:49) All of these tools you reference are built into iLinc, correct?
  • (19:03) You would take the leads that you get and have someone place a call to them, correct?
  • (21:34) What are some other ways that small and mid-sized businesses are using web and video conferencing?
  • (25:01) It seems like there a lot of choices out there when it comes to web conferencing solutions. What should small businesses look for in a web conferencing provider?

I’ve been researching web providers a LOT lately and iLinc is definitely the one I’ve been most impressed with. Not just for the pricing (which is competitive) or the features (which are state-of-the art), but for the Green Meter. I loves how it calculates for you the energy saving based on where each participant is in the world and how much carbon it would have emitted into the atmosphere if all of these people had traveled to facilitator’s host city. It’s worth a look. They have a demo you can watch and free trial you can get at http://www.ilinc.com.

Real estate, bottled water, restaurant chains and more industry! And now, online business — the iLinc. Wow. Dr. James Power that was amazing!

Btw, I thought webinars are that hard to prepare — as hard as the physical meetup/seminars. This is indeed a great podcast interview. A lot to learn! ;)

  4. Amanda Says:

It seems like webinars are exploding in popularity lately. I can see the appeal, I would much rather attend informative webinars from the comfort of my home rather than traveling to various seminars.

Exactly Amanda! Imagine how much time, transportation, allowance and misc.expenses you will be able to save by attending webinars!

  7. Arthur Bland Says:

So true. Webinars can save a lot from the traditional meetups. However the feeling of fulfillment and contentment is not the same when you find yourself really dealing with other entrepreneurs in a physical meetup/seminar.

  8. Chris Says:

@GreenGirl – that IS a fantastic feature which wasn’t discussed during the interview so thanks for pointing that out here. That’s such an interesting concept and it’d be quite interesting to see the final numbers of the savings. I bet they can be astronomical!

  9. Martin Lindeskog Says:

This interview gave me fuel for a new writing piece . Thanks!

I wonder how Dr. James Powers would compare his iLinc with e.g. dimdim.

Arthur: I agree with you on the physical meetup. We shouldn’t forget about that. I have based a whole business idea on the physical meeting between small business owners, entrepreneurs and business minded individuals. Taking about MeetUp, you could listen to an interesting interview with the founder of MeetUp at Socially Speaking – Sun Radio.
